Good thing I have this crystal ball right next to me...
First, as a wired-in device, you can't easily move it around as your needs change. And your installation locations are limited to where you already have outlets or electrical boxes. Seems a bit restrictive to me.
Second, the device is in an enclosed electrical box: Heat dissipation could easily be a problem, especially if installed in an outside wall with a southern exposure (north of the equator, reverse south of the equator), or in any well-insulated wall. I'd prefer to see front slots for passive cooling.
Third, the power control and monitoring circuitry won't all be inside the slide-in module, so some failures will require replacing the entire unit.
Fourth, these are expensive wireless outlets, even at KS pricing. And only a single outlet of the pair is controlled. If all you need is remote outlet monitoring and control, there are better and cheaper units available today from Amazon. Why wait a year?
Fifth, they're attempting to launch multiple items in a single campaign. A single product is tough enough! Multiple items is typically the Kiss of Death, and at the very least it can easily add a year or more of delay.
Sixth, back in 2010 this same idea was tried by one of the campaign founders at CALM Technologies, Inc.: http://www.calmtechnologies.com/index.cfm/products/commercial/calmport-configurable-electrical-outlet I wonder what happened back then, and why it wasn't mentioned in the current campaign?
So, no, this campaign makes no sense to me, not as an HA enthusiast, not as an engineer, and certainly not as an observer of many crowdfunding campaigns (who's been burned too many times).
